Honoring Celso
Celso Dionicio Ignacio, our beloved pantry aide, died unexpectedly on January 8, 2023 after a brief, but severe illness. We are terribly sad over his passing.
Celso was born into a large family from Oaxaca and moved to Mexico City as a young man. He was a long-term Pilsen resident and lived around the corner from the pantry. Celso walked into the pantry to volunteer on March 24, 2020, our first day on Throop Street, and soon was hired. Celso was tireless, diligent, and always willing to help a person in need. His laugh and smile were unmistakable.
Celso is survived by his three children and parents. After tremendous community support, the Foundation was able to transport him to Mexico City, cover his burial expenses, and offer the family additional financial support. May Celso rest in peace.
